Myths Concerning Chiropractic Modality Therapies

Chiropractic care can be an effective option for individuals that are experiencing significant pain or mobility issues. While chiropractic care is not a new field, it is still often the case that a potential patient can have an inaccurate understanding of this type of care and the treatments that it may utilize.

Myth: Chiropractic Care Always Involves Hard Physical Adjustments

One of the most common treatments that chiropractors will need to administer is a joint adjustment. This will often involve the use of pressure to physically shift the joint. However, this is far from the only type of treatment that these services can offer to their patients. Another example of this type of treatment can be the use of modality therapy. This type of therapy will involve a wide range of treatments that can be used to address specific problems. This treatment commonly uses alternating heat and cold or even ultrasonic devices.

Myth: Modality Therapy Only Provides Temporary Relief

Patients may underestimate the overall effectiveness of modality therapy options, but these treatment options can provide lasting benefits to patients that undergo them. Additionally, many of these treatments can involve changes that may improve the overall quality of life for the patient. For example, modality therapy can encompass a patient's dietary and sleeping habits as these factors can have a surprisingly large impact on their health. When you are working with a chiropractor that offers modality therapy treatments, they will be able to explain the procedures that can help your particular condition along with the types of results that should be expected.

Myth: Undergoing Modality Therapy Is Painful

Another assumption that is often held about modality treatments is that they will be painful. Individuals may be especially concerned about this when undergoing treatments involving ultrasonic-based therapies. Generally, this treatment may not even be particularly noticeable to a patient or they may notice a slight vibrating sensation. Treatments that involve using hot or cold temperature extremes can be another concern, but the application of these temperatures will be limited to the specific area that is being treated. This can limit the discomfort that a patient is likely to experience. Additionally, these temperatures are only likely to be needed for short intervals of time, which can further reduce the overall amount of discomfort that you experience. In the event that the temperature is extreme enough to be painful, you should alert the chiropractor so that they can make any necessary adjustments to their approach.

Reach out to a local chiropractor for more information about modality therapy.
